He knew that some things that he endured were consequences of sin he committed. David acknowledged what he had done was wrong. He desired GOD’s Will and turned to Him for forgiveness. This is called repentance. It has been stated, Pain lets you know that something is wrong. GOD has given us a conscience that we may know right from wrong. In our heart, in our innermost being, we know when things are not right with us. We receive corrections that we may learn to do what’s right. For whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom He receiveth. (Hebrews 12:6 KJV biblegateway.com) Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.
